Statewide guide

Texas ticket dismissal and defensive driving, clearly explained.

Your court decides whether defensive driving can dismiss your ticket. TexDDS provides the TDLR-licensed course after the court gives permission.

1

Ask the court first.

Ticket dismissal depends on the municipal or justice court handling the citation. Court approval is required before a defensive driving course can dismiss a ticket.

2

Take the licensed-provider course.

TexDDS is a TDLR Driving Safety Provider, license CP411. Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation

3

Pair the certificate with the court's required documents.

Many courts require a certified Type 3A driving record. DPS identifies Type 3A as the defensive-driving record type. Texas Department of Public Safety

4

Submit before the court deadline.

Follow the court's instructions for your certificate, driving record, deadline, and proof of insurance.

Randy and Gary Hensley carry forward the defensive-driving school David L. Hensley started in 1986. The classroom still exists in San Angelo, the online course has served Texas drivers for years, and this anniversary-year refresh makes the customer path easier to understand.

That path is direct: verify the license, choose the right course option, complete the course or scheduled class, and follow the court's deadline.

Who does what

The court controls dismissal. TexDDS controls the course.

For ticket dismissal, the court decides eligibility, court costs, due dates, and what documents must be returned. TexDDS provides the licensed defensive driving course, completion support, and clear next steps for drivers who have been approved to take a course.

For insurance discounts, ask your insurer whether a defensive driving course qualifies before you buy. The insurance course is separate from ticket dismissal and is not valid for dismissing a citation.
