Texas Tech, Red Raider football, Buddy Holly's legacy, and cotton country place Lubbock squarely at the center of the South Plains. Lubbock Municipal Court gives twelve days to appear in person or in writing—a phone call does not count—and publishes no fixed fee or completion window. In TxDOT’s 2024 city crash table, Lubbock recorded 5,173 crashes, including 26 fatal crashes and 60 suspected-serious-injury crashes.
